Vikoma Wins £2million MOD contract

Vikoma International Ltd, part of Aberdeen based Energy Environmental Ltd, has begun work on a contract worth more than £2 million to supply hydraulic powerpacks to KBR, as part of a Ministry of Defence contract.

The powerpacks have been designed and developed specifically for the end user, to provide power for pumping operations in challenging environments across the world. Three different designs are being manufactured to suit varying environments and operational requirements.

Vikoma was awarded the contract on the strength of its design and manufacturing capability, along with its reputation for quality.

The first batch of powerpacks will be supplied over the next 6 months from Vikoma’s Isle of Wight manufacturing plant. The first part of the contract, to design and build prototype units, is almost complete and the main bulk of the order will begin manufacture in December.

Mike King, Managing Director of Vikoma International Ltd, explained, “This is a significant order for Vikoma and opens up a new market for us. Achieving the MOD’s stringent selection criteria is a testament to the people we have working here.”

Vikoma is best known for the design and manufacture of equipment for oil spill response and pollution control. Powerpacks have always been a key element of oil spill response systems and Vikoma is well known for producing powerful, highly reliable units. The new design enables the units to drive a wide range of different equipment in extreme environments.

A spokesperson for KBR said, “we have been impressed with Vikoma’s ability to engineer a modified commercial off the shelf solution to meet the exacting standards specified by the Ministry of Defence, to ensure safe and reliable operation.”

Vikoma will shortly be moving to new purpose built premises in East Cowes, which will allow the company to increase production and give space for the development of new products.
