
KPA & Vikoma Sign Contract
Leslie Andrews, Vikoma’s regional sales manager, was in Mombasa to sign the $500,000.00 contract with the KPA to supply the latest in oil pollution control equipment for offshore, harbour and coastal protection in the region. The purchase of this equipment will enable KPA to upgrade their response capability from Tier 1 to Tier 2.
The contract also incorporates a comprehensive training programme for 20 KPA employees, on the use of the equipment and response training, which Vikoma will carry out in Kenya next month. On completion, KPA will be the regional leader in its ability to deal with oil spill situations.
KPA managing director, Abdalla Mwaruwa said, “The signing of this agreement today is a great achievement for the Authority, for oil pollution alertness and response in our region”.
Vikoma were privileged to host a visit by Mr. Mwaruwa and Captain Khamisi – Managing Director and Operations Manager/ Harbour Master, who were keen to inspect the Vikoma manufacturing facilities and to meet the senior management team.
A team from the KPA Oil Pollution Centre spent a week training at the Vikoma facility in the UK. The team comprised of Captain Namadoa, Mr Abdulla Mohamed and Mr. Silas Mwakoma who were involved in hands-on exercises, class sessions and a visit to a Tier 3 responder. This visit will be followed up by the response training course in Kenya.
