This week, Vikoma International Ltd’s Special Projects Director, Mr Mike Dorey announced his retirement.
Mike has been involved in developing oil spill response systems at Vikoma for 33 of the Company’s 40 year history and is well known and well respected throughout the industry.
Mike Dorey plans to step out of his full time role during the summer and will continue to work with Vikoma International on special projects on a consultancy basis.
On announcing his retirement he said, “I have enjoyed the challenges and developments in the industry over the years, but now I would like to spend a little more time with my family. I don’t want to step away completely though – Vikoma has some exciting projects in the offing and it will be a pleasure to help bring those to fruition!”
Mike King, Managing Director of Vikoma International Ltd commented, “Mike’s expertise and experience has been a valuable asset to Vikoma over the years and we are incredibly pleased he is going to continue to work with us. Mike has an impressive track record and is responsible for the concept behind two of Vikoma’s cornerstone products, including the ideas behind our best of breed products, the Hi-Sprint boom and the Komara 20 skimmer, both of which have set industry standards in performance and reliability for oil spill response equipment. He was also instrumental in major spill and protection projects such as the massive BTC pipeline from Georgia to Turkey.”
Overall Vikoma has had a very good year, having recently announced excellent profits for the last financial year and exciting investment plans for the future, with new products and new developments in the pipeline, including expansion into a new, larger production plant at the end of this year.
Last week Vikoma also launched its brand new “fast response oil spill trimaran” the Vikosprint, built in Finland and now on its way to new owners in the North Africa. The boat has a top speed of around 22 knots, is incredibly manoeuvrable and is designed to create a minimal bow wave and wake to ensure maximum spill containment.
Mike King went on to say, “I’m sure I can speak on behalf of the industry on wishing Mike a very happy retirement. And I’m sure we all look forward to continuing to work with him, if only on a reduced basis.”
