Vikoma Hi-Sprint Boom

Vikoma Hi-Sprint Boom used during Brazil Rig Disaster A devastating explosion has sunk P-36, the worlds largest offshore oil platform located off the Brazilian coast. The subsequent high risk of a major oil pollution incident caused locally based international oil spill response teams to deploy Vikoma Hi-Sprint boom to ensure containment of any oil spillage.

The Vikoma Hi-Sprint boom is part of a major stockpile of oil pollution control equipment located at 9 response bases in Brazil. In late 2000 and the early part of 2001 Vikoma supplied 7000 metres of Hi-Sprint 1500 boom, TC3 Helicopter spray systems, Komara 20 skimmers and 8 purpose built "Envirocat" spill response vessels to Alpina Briggs who set-up, operate and maintain these bases on behalf of Petrobras. Alpina Briggs is a Brazilian/British joint venture company that was awarded a six year contract last year by Petrobras, to establish, operate and maintain a network of nine environmental defence centres throughout Brazil.
